An ongoing project regarding a fearless woman turning fearful accompanied by a fictional, ironical and critical interpretation of the modern ‘woman warrior’ combined with the image and concept of the demon(ized) Lillith. There are lots of stories about her, coming from different cultures and mythologies. Nowadays she’s seen as one of the first feminist icons. For example: according to Jewish folklore, she was the first wife of Adam, but refused to obey him, so she left the garden of Eden on her own terms.
The ambiguities in this work refer to the duality between confidence/strength and fatigue/hopelesness when it comes to fighting certain norms and standards in our (cis-heteronormative) patriarchal society. The cosplay like costume is a subtle connection to the theory of gender as a social construct, a performativity, a disguise, a play.
This work has been shown at la fille d’O Antwerp as part of the NOTSPOT art route: 2 aluminum lightboxes with 1 black and white and 1 color photograph printed on foil – text printed on an A4 sheet of paper – sentences on transparant foil glued on mirrors inbetween the 2 lightboxes
